BuildMyHouse Terms of Service & Platform Policies
Last Updated: May 2026 These Terms of Service and Platform Policies ("Terms") govern the use of BuildMyHouse by all users, including homeowners, property owners, clients, contractors, subcontractors, interior designers, renovation specialists, consultants, and all other users accessing the platform. By accessing, registering for, or using BuildMyHouse, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms.
PART A — HOMEOWNER TERMS & POLICIES
1. Overview
BuildMyHouse ("BMH", "we", "our", or "the Platform") is a remote property project management and coordination platform that helps users manage property-related work in Nigeria through structured workflows, verified contractor access, stage-based approvals, communication tools, and project monitoring systems. BuildMyHouse is not: - a construction company, - an engineering consultancy, - an architecture firm, - an insurer, - a financial institution, - or a direct employer of contractors. BuildMyHouse provides software, operational coordination tools, verification systems, communication systems, and project management workflows intended to improve visibility, structure, accountability, and remote execution.
2. Eligibility
To use BuildMyHouse as a homeowner or property client, you must: - be at least 18 years old, - have the legal authority to manage or commission property work, - provide accurate registration information, - maintain updated contact information, - and comply with all applicable laws. BuildMyHouse reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts containing false, misleading, incomplete, or fraudulent information.
3. Nature of the Platform
BuildMyHouse helps homeowners: - request repair, renovation, interior, or construction projects, - receive contractor matches, - monitor project stages, - communicate with contractors, - approve milestones, - upload project-related materials, - and manage payments tied to stage progression. BuildMyHouse does not guarantee: - project profitability, - specific investment returns, - property appreciation, - exact timelines, - or uninterrupted project execution. All construction, repair, renovation, and property-related work inherently carries risk.
4. Contractor Verification Disclaimer
BuildMyHouse may verify contractors through: - identity checks, - business documentation, - interviews, - portfolio reviews, - references, - certifications, - and platform activity. However, verification does not constitute: - a warranty, - insurance coverage, - legal endorsement, - engineering certification, - or a guarantee of performance. Homeowners acknowledge that all projects involve independent third parties and real-world operational variables.
5. Project Scope & Stage-Based Workflow
BuildMyHouse uses a structured stage-based workflow system. Users agree that: - project stages must be clearly defined, - approvals should occur per stage, - payments should correspond to approved milestones, - and work progression may be paused pending approvals, clarification, disputes, or operational review. BuildMyHouse strongly recommends that homeowners do not release funds outside approved workflows.
6. Payment Terms
By using BuildMyHouse: - homeowners authorize payment processing through approved payment providers, - homeowners agree that platform fees may apply, - homeowners acknowledge that refunds may not be automatic, - and homeowners understand that approved payments may become irreversible once released to contractors. BuildMyHouse may hold, delay, review, or suspend payments where: - fraud is suspected, - disputes arise, - stage evidence is incomplete, - suspicious activity occurs, - or platform policies are violated. BuildMyHouse reserves the right to introduce escrow, milestone holding systems, verification holds, or dispute review processes.
7. Site Inspections & Physical Access
Homeowners acknowledge that: - physical inspections may be required, - contractors may need access to the property, - site conditions may affect pricing or timelines, - and project estimates may change after inspection. Homeowners are responsible for: - securing lawful access to the property, - ensuring safe working conditions, - and providing accurate project information.
8. Communication Policy
All users agree to communicate respectfully and professionally. Users may not: - harass, - threaten, - abuse, - discriminate against, - impersonate, - or manipulate other users. BuildMyHouse reserves the right to monitor platform communications for: - fraud prevention, - trust and safety, - dispute resolution, - moderation, - and operational quality assurance.
9. Off-Platform Transactions
Homeowners acknowledge that BuildMyHouse's systems, protections, monitoring tools, and support processes apply primarily to projects managed through the platform. BuildMyHouse shall not be responsible for: - private side agreements, - direct off-platform payments, - external arrangements, - or informal transactions outside platform workflows. Users understand that bypassing platform systems may reduce or eliminate eligibility for support, moderation, dispute review, or operational assistance.
10. Project Delays & Operational Risk
Homeowners acknowledge that projects may experience delays due to: - weather, - supply chain interruptions, - material shortages, - labor availability, - permit issues, - inspection outcomes, - government actions, - security concerns, - site conditions, - or unforeseen circumstances. BuildMyHouse does not guarantee uninterrupted or delay-free execution.
11. Disputes
Where disputes arise between homeowners and contractors, BuildMyHouse may: - review communications, - examine uploaded evidence, - request additional documentation, - temporarily pause workflows, - restrict platform actions, - or recommend resolution pathways. BuildMyHouse reserves discretion regarding: - platform moderation, - trust and safety decisions, - account restrictions, - or operational intervention. BuildMyHouse is not obligated to act as a formal court, arbitrator, or legal adjudicator.
12. Intellectual Property
All BuildMyHouse branding, systems, workflows, interfaces, software, content, operational methods, and designs remain the intellectual property of BuildMyHouse. Users may not: - copy, - reverse engineer, - resell, - reproduce, - or exploit platform systems without written authorization.
13. Privacy & Data Usage
By using BuildMyHouse, homeowners consent to the collection and processing of: - account information, - project data, - uploaded files, - communications, - payment-related information, - and operational records. Data may be used for: - project coordination, - trust and safety, - verification, - analytics, - fraud prevention, - customer support, - and service improvement. BuildMyHouse will take commercially reasonable measures to protect user data but cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. Account Suspension & Termination
BuildMyHouse reserves the right to suspend, restrict, or terminate accounts where users: - violate platform rules, - engage in fraud, - abuse contractors or staff, - manipulate payment systems, - upload false information, - or create operational, legal, or safety risks.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BuildMyHouse shall not be liable for: - indirect damages, - lost profits, - project losses, - construction defects, - contractor negligence, - site accidents, - property damage, - emotional distress, - or investment losses. Use of the platform is at the user's own risk.
16. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and interpreted under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
PART B — GENERAL CONTRACTOR TERMS & POLICIES
1. Overview
These terms govern all contractors, builders, artisans, renovation specialists, interior designers, consultants, subcontractors, and service providers ("General Contractors" or "GCs") using BuildMyHouse. By registering as a GC, you agree to comply with all BuildMyHouse operational standards, trust policies, communication requirements, verification procedures, and platform rules.
2. Independent Contractor Relationship
General Contractors using BuildMyHouse are independent service providers. Nothing in these Terms creates: - employment, - partnership, - agency, - joint venture, - or franchise relationships between BuildMyHouse and contractors. Contractors remain solely responsible for: - labor, - workmanship, - taxes, - licensing, - insurance, - permits, - subcontractors, - compliance, - and operational execution.
3. Verification Requirements
To access projects, contractors may be required to submit: - government-issued identification, - CAC registration, - tax documentation, - certifications, - insurance records, - business information, - references, - portfolio evidence, - and additional documentation requested by BuildMyHouse. BuildMyHouse may: - approve, - reject, - suspend, - or revoke verification status at its discretion. Verification status may change based on: - project performance, - disputes, - complaints, - safety concerns, - communication quality, - documentation issues, - or policy violations.
4. Contractor Responsibilities
General Contractors agree to: - provide accurate information, - communicate professionally, - complete stages honestly, - upload truthful progress evidence, - respect project scope, - avoid misleading homeowners, - comply with timelines reasonably, - and maintain professional conduct. Contractors may not: - falsify updates, - pressure homeowners for unauthorized payments, - manipulate stage approvals, - submit fraudulent documentation, - or misrepresent qualifications.
5. Platform Conduct Standards
Contractors acknowledge that BuildMyHouse operates through structured workflows. Contractors agree that: - stages must be clearly defined, - milestone requests must reflect actual progress, - evidence uploads should accurately reflect current site conditions, - and homeowners must have reasonable visibility into work progression. BuildMyHouse may review: - uploaded photos, - videos, - stage submissions, - communications, - and operational behavior.
6. Project Acceptance
BuildMyHouse does not guarantee: - project assignments, - revenue, - minimum earnings, - or project volume. Project matching may depend on: - location, - specialization, - verification status, - homeowner preferences, - platform ratings, - availability, - responsiveness, - and historical performance.
7. Payments & Fees
Contractors agree that: - BuildMyHouse may charge platform fees, - payouts may be delayed for review, - milestone payments may require homeowner approval, - and payment release may depend on compliance with platform procedures. BuildMyHouse reserves the right to: - hold payments, - reverse pending disbursements, - investigate suspicious activity, - or suspend financial activity where fraud or disputes are suspected.
8. Off-Platform Solicitation
Contractors may not: - aggressively solicit homeowners away from the platform, - pressure users into untracked payments, - or deliberately bypass BuildMyHouse systems after platform introductions. BuildMyHouse reserves the right to: - suspend contractors, - remove verification, - reduce visibility, - or terminate accounts involved in platform circumvention.
9. Site Safety & Compliance
Contractors are solely responsible for: - workplace safety, - labor practices, - site supervision, - equipment handling, - permits, - insurance, - and regulatory compliance. BuildMyHouse is not responsible for: - injuries, - site accidents, - labor disputes, - permit failures, - equipment losses, - or contractor operational negligence.
10. Intellectual Property & Portfolio Usage
By using BuildMyHouse, contractors grant BuildMyHouse a limited license to use: - project photos, - uploaded content, - reviews, - ratings, - and project-related materials for: - platform operations, - marketing, - trust-building, - case studies, - and service improvement. Contractors must only upload materials they have lawful rights to use.
11. Ratings & Reputation
Contractors acknowledge that: - homeowner feedback, - ratings, - dispute history, - communication quality, - responsiveness, - and project completion history may affect platform visibility and eligibility. BuildMyHouse may internally maintain trust and reliability scoring systems.
12. Suspension & Removal
BuildMyHouse reserves the right to suspend, restrict, or permanently remove contractors where: - fraud is suspected, - repeated complaints occur, - stage evidence is manipulated, - communication becomes abusive, - platform rules are violated, - or trust and safety risks arise. Verification can be revoked at any time.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, BuildMyHouse shall not be liable for: - lost profits, - project cancellations, - indirect damages, - business interruption, - homeowner decisions, - economic losses, - or disputes between independent parties. Contractors use the platform at their own risk.
14. Confidentiality
Contractors agree not to: - misuse homeowner data, - disclose private project information, - share sensitive materials, - or exploit platform relationships improperly.
15. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
FINAL PLATFORM ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
By using BuildMyHouse, all users acknowledge that: - construction and property work involve operational uncertainty, - BuildMyHouse provides workflow structure and coordination systems, - users remain responsible for independent decisions, - and successful project outcomes depend on multiple real-world factors beyond software alone.
